The Wysr app is designed with the core tenets of simplicity and discoverability. Wysr is built on a collection of more than 10,000 quotes and images. Users are greeted daily with a new quote curated for someone exactly their age. The app aims to inspire and afford the user the time and space for reflection and thought at the start of each day.
Young adults want a streamlined, user-friendly digital tool that delivers personalized daily inspiration to support their self-growth journey. Analytics data and user feedback on a pilot product revealed failure to provide an engaging, impactful experience that seamlessly integrates into their daily digital habits.
Poor Engagement and Discovery: Users struggle to discover and engage with all app features, leading to underutilization of potentially valuable tools for personal growth. This is evidenced by low engagement with favorites (2-3 visits per day) and delayed discovery of features (e.g., one user not finding the favorites feature until week 3).
Limited Sharing and Social Integration: The current quote-sharing functionality is limited and underused (< 1% engagement), failing to meet users' needs for broader social platform integration. This limits the app's potential as a tool for both personal reflection and social connection around inspirational content.
Customization vs. Core Functionality: Resources are being allocated to customization features (e.g., background changes, font customizations) that show minimal long-term user engagement, with over 50% of users defaulting to standard settings after the first week. This detracts from developing and refining core features that could more directly support users' personal growth objectives.
Low Stickiness: Despite young adults spending an average of four hours on apps daily, the current solution fails to establish itself as a consistent, valuable part of users' daily routines for personal development and positive self-reflection.
To provide the most valuable features for users, deprioritized underutilized customization and implemented data backed default styling by using the most engaged fonts and theme colors from Pilot testing. Coupled with automatic theme switching based on device mode, these data-informed defaults provide a streamlined experience without requiring extensive user input.
To address the hidden and underutilized features, implemented an interactive onboarding tutorial showcasing key features guiding users through the app's functionality, increasing feature discovery and engagement.
To improve limited and ineffective social sharing, expanded sharing capabilities to integrate with all major social platforms, add direct messaging options, and enable easy copying to clipboard for universal sharing. This significantly increases the app's potential for social connection and content sharing.
Leveraged timed push notifications to increase regular engagement. Designed widgets for easy access from home and lock screens. These integrations make the app more accessible and embedded in users' daily digital habits.
Distraction-free presentation of content and core actions help set the tone for moments of reflection.
